It’s teaser time again – using a vasectomised tup can help you tighten your lambing period and advance the breeding season by several weeks. Surgery involves removing a section of vas deferens – your tup will still have testicles and behave like an entire ram, but he won’t be fertile.

  • Teasers should be healthy and well-conditioned, with good feet, teeth, and no history of disease.
  • Vasectomies should take place at least 60 days before use, to ensure no viable sperm remain.
  • Ewes must be separated from the sight and smell of tups for at least 1 month before teaser use, in order to obtain maximal results.
  • Teasers go in 14 days before fertile rams and should run at a ratio of 1:50-100 teasers : ewes.
