Our Intermediate hoof trimming course is a three-day course for those with some trimming experience which covers routine preventive trimming as well as treatment of lame cows. Day one includes a review of the anatomy of the foot and the causes of lameness and plenty of practice on cadaver feet.  Days two and three will be spent on farm trimming cows.

Training will be delivered by both a vet and a foot trimmer to a small group to provide plenty of hands-on experience. There will be discussions about the best tools for the job including knife sharpening, block selection and grinder use. Also finding out the latest methods for preventing lameness.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of competence from Lantra which is recognised by milk buyers.

The course qualifies for 80% funding for Welsh holdings registered with Farming Connect. (You will need to apply for the funding at least 6 weeks before the course, please contact us for more details)
